7 Easy Steps to Fix Sublimation Mistakes on Glass Cans

Sublimation designs are graphic designs that use high heat to transfer the design onto a blank.

Once you know how sublimation works it’s easier to figure out how to undo the process and fix your mistakes.

Convection Oven Method vs Mug Press

We’re going to need some special equipment for this mission – a convection oven, to be precise.

Now, you might be wondering, “Why a convection oven? Can’t I just use my mug press?” Well, you can but if the glass can is longer than your mug press, you’ll have to flip the can to heat up the entire length of it. 

The convection oven will distribute the heat in one time instead of two times.

After all, don’t we all want to save time when we can?

Re-bake the Glass can

If you’ve ever made a sublimation mistake, you know that it can be really annoying. 

But you can salvage the glass can using the magic of an oven. Yes, it’s possible to rebake it!

Steps to Fix a Sublimation Glass can

  1. Set your oven to about 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Place the glass can in a convection or toaster oven. 
  3. Set your timer to 60 minutes.
  4. Check for signs of fading after 5 – 10 minutes. 
  5. Leave the glass can in and keep checking it after 15 minute intervals.
  6. Remove the glass can using protective heat gloves and let it cool
  7. Apply a new sublimation design to the glass can using a sublimation oven.

You may need an extra 15-30 minutes to fade the existing design from the glass can. Put it in for an initial 60 minutes and check on the progress frequently. If it’s not sufficiently faded after an hour, place the glass can back in the oven for another 15 minutes.
