Everyone knows that Instagram is great for sharing pictures but it can also be a great tool to promote your art.
I was recently contacted by Sue B. Zimmerman to create a illustration. Sue aka “the Instagram Expert” helps business owners find success on Instagram. I have really learned a lot from Sue and today I’m passing on a few of my favorite Instagram tips.

1. Favorite tools and supplies
Talk about your favorite medium or explain your preference for one tool over another. You can also make a list of your favorite tools.
2.
Day in the LifeIf you sell physical products of your art for example, in an online store like Etsy, show a picture of you making a post office run and shipping packages.
3. Friday Intro
Take a selfie and share a few little known facts about yourself for new followers.
4. Studio tour
Use the carousel features to add several photos of the space where you create.
5. Promote fellow creatives
Create a list of fellow creatives that you admire and make a carousel post showing each person. Be sure to @tag the person so that they can promote you to their followers if they wish to do so. Don’t forget to get permission from each person before posting.
6. Events
If you are participating in a craft fair, art exhibit or any other creative event, add a picture of you behind the stand or in the audience to your feed.
7. Before & After
Find an old piece of artwork that you created in the past and post it alongside a more recent piece of artwork to show your progression.
8. Work in progress
If you’re working on a long-term project, show small snippets of it as you progress. This will give your followers and idea of the detail and work involved in the piece without having to wait until the project is finished to see it.
9. Creative challenge
If you participate in an art challenge like Inktober, use hashtag to get a wider audience and explain each day’s theme to your followers.
10. Customer photos
Ask your customers if you can repost photos that display them using your art. After all, word of mouth advertising goes a long way and this is a way to show the proof of your art in the hands of happy customers.
Bonus Tip! You can make any of the above post ideas into a video.
