Can you remove permanent Cricut vinyl from glass?

Removing permanent Cricut vinyl from glass is possible without leaving any traces.

You’ll just need to scrub a bit harder if the vinyl has been there for a long time.

There are various ways to do it and you’ll also need a few items to completely remove Cricut vinyl from glass.

Supplies

Instructions

Method 1

First, peel off the stickers from the glass as much as you can using a pair of sharp tweezers or a blade.

Be careful to avoid scratching the surface.

Next, wet the glass using a damp cloth or soak the decal in warm water or white vinegar.

Most of the time, liquids will soften it enough to allow you to lift it off the glass surface completely.

Because permanent vinyl leaves residue on the glass, squeeze some rubbing alcohol onto the glass to wipe off the remaining adhesive marks.

Method 2

Alternatively, you can also use a heat gun or hair dryer to remove the vinyl.

Heat up the text or sign you want to remove for less than 30 seconds with your hair dryer/heat gun

Pro Tip: Do not hold the heat gun or dryer for long in one place for long to prevent your glass from shattering or breaking.

Then, starting from the corners, gently lift off the sticker from the glass surface using a sharp blade or plastic scraper/ credit card.

Once it’s all off, spray rubbing alcohol or Goo Gone onto the glass, then wipe off the remaining residue using a dry cloth.

How to remove hard to remove Cricut vinyl from glass

It can be tough to remove old vinyl especially if it has been exposed to UV rays for a long period.

If the methods above don’t work, you can try orange-based citrus cleaners or WD40 to remove the leftover bits.

Since these cleaners have a very strong smell, make sure you’re in a well-ventilated room before you start using them.

For extra protection, wear a face mask and goggles.

Make sure you get rid of all the residue. This is a step you can’t skip especially if you want to put new vinyl decals or lettering on the glass.

Is Cricut vinyl temporary or permanent?

There are two types of Cricut vinyl:

Premium removable vinyl

Since it does not remain permanently on items, these stickers are best used for doors and walls or to design temporary decals that are replaceable periodically.

If you are looking to switch out your designs often, this is the perfect solution as it doesn’t leave behind marks when removed.

Premium permanent vinyl

Designed to remain longer on items, these decals, if removed, leave a residue.

Only consider it for permanent or long-term projects like gift items or glassware.

They can last for up to 4 years and are resistant to UV and water.

You can also switch from removable to permanent by replacing the decals as required.

Does removable Cricut vinyl stick on glass?

Stickers for glass and windows are the most common.

They’re usually made as decorations for special occasions or for banners in storefronts and malls.

Glass handles both removable and permanent Cricut vinyl pretty well.

However, removable Cricut vinyl-only sticks well to glass indoors or for a short-term project.

The adhesive doesn’t last when exposed to harsh outside weather conditions.

Conclusion

Cricut vinyl is a good choice to use on glass.  It’s a fun and easy way to make a beautiful craft for any project.
