Lemonade braids for kids

If you’re looking for beautiful hairstyles for kids, why not try lemonade braids?

Regular plaits are cute but a longer-lasting style and maybe a better option for summer vacation are lemonade braids. Especially when the weather is hot and you don’t feel like sitting down to braid hair every few days on a figety toddler.

What are lemonade braids?

Lemonade braids are plaited to the scalp. So they’re similar to cornrow braids. Additional hair is added to the braid using the feed-in method and the style is braided to one side of the head.

You can make them in a small, medium or large size.

Why are lemonade braids called lemonade braids?

The name, lemonade braids, comes from Beyonce’s hit album titled Lemonade.  In the title song, which has the same name as the album, the singer wears this signature side cornrow style of braids.

Are lemonade braids in style?

These braids are just as popular now as they were when Bey put them on the map. It’s low maintenance which makes them a great style for children.

They come in different sizes and styles. This means that you can adjust them to fit kids or adults.

How long do lemonade braids take?

Wondering how long lemonade braids take to install? Plan to spend anywhere from 3 to 6 hours to get this style done.

Of course, since kids have smaller heads than adults, it should take less time.

I get commissions for purchases made through some of the links in this post. There is no extra cost to you. See my full disclosure here.

Check out the video below to see the different versions.

Here is what you’ll need to get this look

  1. Synthetic hair (Kanekalon)
  2. Hair clips
  3. Beads (optional)
  4. Gel for edges
  5. Small comb or rat tail comb
  6. Detangling brush

A good detangling brush is a must-have. You can use it on washed and dried hair to get out the tangles before braiding.

beads with large hole for braiding

When you’re looking for beads for braiding, get some with a large hole. It will make it easier to put the hair through the bead.

Here are my favorite styles for girls.

Lemonade braids with beads

You can accessorize these braids by putting beads on the ends.

Small braids give you a neat finished look. Plan to spend a little more time on braiding for these.

Colored beads are pretty but clear beads go with everything, so you don’t have to worry about not matching the beads to your child’s outfit.
