We’re going to need some special equipment for this mission – a convection oven, to be precise.
Now, you might be wondering, “Why a convection oven? Can’t I just use my heat press?” Well, the reason we need a convection oven is because of the irregular shape of the flask. The convection oven will distribute the heat better around the flask.
If you want to ensure that it comes out looking as stunning as possible, then you need to make sure that it gets heated evenly.
Steps to Fix a Sublimation Flask
- Set your oven to about 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Place the flask in a convection or toaster oven.
- Set your timer to 60 minutes.
- Check for signs of fading after 5 – 10 minutes.
- Leave the flask in and keep checking it after 15-minute intervals.
- Remove the flask using protective heat gloves and let it cool.
- Apply a new sublimation design to the flask using a convection oven.
You may need an extra 15-30 minutes to fade the existing design from the flask. Put it in for an initial 60 minutes and check on the progress frequently. If it’s not sufficiently faded after an hour, place the flask back in the oven for another 15 minutes.
How to Avoid Getting Bubbles in the Sublimation
Air pockets between the flask and the sublimation design can cause you to get bubbles in your finished product.
In order to avoid getting bubbles, you need to use your fingers to press the transfer paper down until it’s smooth. Smooth, smooth, and smooth again.
Pro Tip – Avoid bubbles by smoothing the sublimation design before baking it.
