How to Connect Cricut to Design Space: 3 Quick Fixes
Are you having issues connecting Cricut to Design Space? You’ve tried everything but you still can’t get Cricut to show up?
Here’s a step-by-step tutorial for when you are having challenges with connectivity.
What You Need To Connect Cricut and Design Space
First off, if you need to know how to connect Cricut to your computer for the first time, I have a separate post on this.
This post is mainly about fixing your connection issues to Cricut Design Space.
The way the connection works is that the Design Space software sends instructions to the Cricut machine. It’s like the brain that tells the Cricut machine what to cut and where to cut.
There are two ways to connect your cutter to DS. Connections are made by either using a USB cord or pairing the devices via Bluetooth.
Cricut supports Windows and Mac, so your device will have to have either of these operating systems.

Method 1: Plug It In
- So you know that you can connect your Cricut machine to Design Space wirelessly via Bluetooth but if this is not working for you, try plugging it in with the ethernet cable that comes with your machine.
Make sure that the cable is properly connected between your computer and your Cricut.
Method 2: Double Check Bluetooth Settings
- The first step is to open Cricut Design Space, click Select Your Machine, and now double-click the home button, and click Settings.
- Choose Bluetooth and select your machine.
- Go back to Design Space and your cutting machine should now show up in the list of accessories.
Method 3: Move Closer
You may have lost your Bluetooth connection because your Cricut Maker is too far away from your computer or mobile device.
If you prefer to connect via Bluetooth, your Cricut must be close to your computer. For the best results, and to make sure that you stay connected via Bluetooth, make sure that your Cricut and your computer are within 10 to 15 feet of each other.
So what if you don’t want to move your Cricut machine? Or if your ethernet cable is too short, you can get ethernet extender cables or an ethernet extender connector.

Legacy machines like Cricut Explore won’t automatically be set up to be used wirelessly. So you’ll need a Wireless Bluetooth Adapter for those machines.
🔢How to Solve Numbered Errors in Design Space
So you’ve checked the connection between your computer and your Cricut and rebooted Design Space but now you’re getting a numbered error message.
The good news is that the number can help you find a solution to the problem.
Cricut has a help page with a list of number errors.
Just note the number showing on Design Space, go to the help page, and follow the suggested steps to fix the problem.
There are a couple of reasons why Design Space isn’t connecting to your Cricut Maker.
For starters, if you are using a USB cable, the cable might not be correctly inserted in the ports.
If the connection is secure, there may be a problem with your cable, and you’ll need to replace it with a new cable.
You can also try reinstalling the USB connection.
You don’t have to be connected to your Cricut to use Design Space if you’re only designing cut files.
You only need to connect Design Space to your Cricut machine once you’re ready to cut your design files.
