5 Minutes to Make PNG Files in Canva for Cricut

Making PNG files in Canva for Cricut is not only fast but also super simple. You’ll love how easy it is to customize this graphic.

Cricut Access vs Canva PNG File

Cricut Access has a huge catalog of designs. But,  it’s fun to be able to use other designs too. It’s even better if you can turn those designs into png files. 

In case you don’t know, PNG stands for Portable Network Graphic. It’s a high quality graphic that can be used with almost any design program, like Adobe Illustrator, Inkscape, GIMP, and lots of other online design apps.

Supplies Needed to Make a PNG

This method requires a Canva account. You can use the free version or the Pro version. 

A lot of the options that I use, like the pixel editing feature which is only available to Pro account users. That could change in the future, but for now, it’s a paid feature.

I recently upgraded to the pro account because I use Canva a lot! So it was worth it for me. The nice thing is that you can try out Canva Pro for free for 30 days before you decide to buy it. 

Step by Step Instructions to Use Canva to Make PNG Files for Cricut

  1. Open a new template in Canva, I suggest using the T-shirt template
  2. Click on Elements from the left side menu panel
  3. Search for an image, I searched for “donuts”. Edit the design to personalize it.
  4. Next, click on the Share button, then select Download
  5. Select the file type as “PNG” and click on Download
  6. Open Cricut Design Space
  7. Upload the saved png file into Design Space.

Edit a PNG Design in Canva

Take it a step further and edit your png file before saving and uploading it to Design Space.

The edit image feature gives you so many possibilities to change your png. I like the pixel feature. It lets me take any design in Canva and turn it into a pixelated version. Kinda like the graphics from old school video games. Fun, right?!
