6 Simple Steps to Import Fonts into Cricut Craft Room

Want more creativity with your Cricut Maker, then you’ll need to learn how to import fonts into Cricut.

First of all, Cricut craft room is from the older Cricut system and has since been replaced with Design Space. Design Space is the new design software that lets you import svg files and fonts.

There are lots of Cricut fonts in the system already. But, what if you want some fancy fonts for your new project? It’s possible to add different fonts with special characters like swashes, loops, curves, and hearts.

In this blog post, I’ll show you the easy way to upload free fonts or paid fonts to Cricut.

To import fonts into Cricut Design Space, you will need to follow these steps:

  1. Open Cricut Design Space on your computer.
  2. Next step, click on the “Text” tool in the left-hand toolbar.
  3. Click on the “Fonts” tab in the top right-hand corner of the window.
  4. Click on the “Add Fonts” button in the top right-hand corner of the window.
  5. A window will pop up, allowing you to browse and open files from your computer. Select the font files that you want to import and click “Open.”
  6. The fonts will be imported into Design Space and will be available for you to use in your Cricut projects.

Note: You can only import Truetype font files (.ttf) and OpenType font files (.otf) into Cricut Design Space. Other font formats, such as PostScript (.ps) fonts, are not supported.

Where Can I Find the Best Fonts?

You can find great, high-quality fonts from online marketplaces and Cricut Access.

A Cricut Access Subscription will give you access to svg files, professionally designed fonts, and customizable projects that each include a quick tutorial with easy steps.

There is a free version of the Cricut Access membership that gives you access to 15 fonts. Or you can get a monthly subscription and get access to 700 font file types.

How do I get Cricut to recognize downloaded fonts?

So you’ve imported your own fonts but Cricut is not recognizing them.

If you have downloaded fonts to your computer but Cricut Design Space is not recognizing them, there are a few things you can try:

Make sure that the font files are saved in a location on your computer where Cricut Design Space has access. By default, Cricut Design Space will look for font files in the following locations:

  • Windows: C:\Windows\Fonts
  • Mac: /Library/Fonts

You may just need to reboot Cricut Design Space. Close and re-open Design Space. This will refresh the program and may help it to recognize the newly-downloaded fonts.

If rebooting Design Space doesn’t help, the problem could also be coming from your computer. Restart your Mac or Windows computer so that it will refresh the system. This may help Cricut Design Space to recognize the new fonts.

Manually import the fonts into Cricut Design Space by following the steps outlined in my previous response.

If none of these steps help, it is possible that the font files you have downloaded are not in a compatible format. As I mentioned before, Cricut Design Space only supports True type fonts. If you are trying to use a font file in a different format, it will not be recognized by Cricut Design Space.

Why are my system fonts not showing up in Cricut Design space?

There are a few possible reasons why system fonts might not be showing up in Cricut Design Space:

  1. The fonts are not installed correctly on your computer. If the fonts are not installed correctly, Cricut Design Space will not be able to access them. To fix this, you will need to reinstall the fonts.
  2. The fonts are not in a format that Cricut Design Space can recognize. Your font needs to be an otf file or a ttf file. If the fonts you are trying to use are in a different format, they will not show up in Cricut Design Space.
  3. The font downloads are still zipped. Font bundles usually come in a zip file. You need to unzip or extract all of them from the font folder before using them.
  4. There is an issue with Cricut Design Space itself. If Cricut Design Space is not functioning correctly, it may not be able to access the fonts on your computer. In this case, you may need to uninstall and reinstall Cricut Design Space to fix the problem.
  5. The fonts are not installed in the default font location on your computer. By default, Cricut Design Space will look for fonts in the C drive in Windows or the Library on Mac.

If the fonts are installed in a different location, Cricut Design Space may not be able to find them. In this case, you will need to move the font files to the default font location or manually import them into Cricut Design Space using the steps outlined in my previous response.
