If you’re looking for a stylish way to use up denim scraps, this denim wreath project is for you. I made one from old jeans I was about to donate, and now I want to hang one in every room. It’s easy, budget-friendly, and the best part?
You can swap out the decorations to fit any season. Whether you’re upcycling jeans from a thrift haul or clearing out your closet, this DIY will turn your old denim into something beautiful.

I get commissions for purchases made through some of the links in this post. There is no extra cost to you. See my full disclosure here.
Supplies You’ll Need
- Old jeans (4–5 pairs for a full wreath)
- Sharp fabric scissors
- 18-inch wire wreath frame (or any size you prefer)
- Ribbon for hanging
- Faux flowers or seasonal accents (optional)
- Ruler or measuring tape (optional)
Tip: Using jeans in a variety of shades (light wash, dark wash, even black) gives your wreath more depth and texture.

Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Cut Your Denim Into Strips
Cut the legs off your old jeans, then slice them down the seams. From there, cut 1-inch wide strips, about 6–9 inches long. You don’t need to be exact—eyeballing works just fine here. You’ll need hundreds of strips, so pace yourself. This is a great project to work on while watching a show or listening to a podcast.
Step 2: Start Tying the Strips
Take each strip and tie it around the wire wreath frame using a simple knot. Keep all your knots on the backside of the frame so the front stays clean and fluffy. The goal is to pack the frame tightly so it looks full. When your hands get tired from cutting, switch to tying (and vice versa). It helps break up the work!
Step 3: Fill in the Gaps
As your wreath fills up, it gets harder to see where the bare spots are. Flip the wreath over from time to time and look for any open areas on the wire frame. Tie additional denim strips in those spots to fill out the shape evenly.
Step 4: Add Your Decorative Touches
Here’s where it gets fun. Slide faux flowers, seasonal picks, or mini ornaments in between the denim strips. For a Christmas wreath, try red poinsettias or tiny bells. For spring, go with tulips or daisies. Want a farmhouse vibe? Add burlap and wooden beads.
You can change the look all year long by simply swapping the decorations—no glue necessary!
