Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Prepare Your Denim

Cut out flat sections from your old jeans, avoiding seams and pockets. Iron the denim pieces to remove any wrinkles so you’re working with a smooth surface.

2. Create Petal Templates

On your cardboard or cardstock, draw three petal shapes:

  • Small (1 inch)
  • Medium (1.5 inches)
  • Large (2 inches)

Cut these out to use as your cutting guides.

3. Cut the Denim Petals

Using your templates, trace and cut out:

  • 5 large petals
  • 5 medium petals
  • 5 small petals

Cut more if you want a fuller flower.

4. Shape the Petals

To get that soft, rustic look, gently fray the edges by pulling a few threads loose from each petal.

5. Assemble the Flower

Bottom Layer: Arrange the large petals in a circle, overlapping slightly, and glue them together at the base.
Middle Layer: Offset the medium petals and glue them in place on top of the large ones.
Top Layer: Add the small petals the same way.

6. Add the Center Embellishment

Pick a fun embellishment like a button, faux pearl, or decorative bead. Glue it to the center of your flower to hide the glued bases and give it that finished look.

7. Add Final Touches

Check for any loose edges and secure them with a dab of hot glue. If you’re turning the flower into an accessory, now’s the time to attach it to a brooch pin, hair clip, or bag.
