5 Minutes to Make JPG Files in Canva for Cricut

If you love making crafts with your cutting machine, then you’ll love this step-by-step method. I’ll show you how to use Canva to make a jpg based cut file for Cricut.

This jpg file can be edited, to change the color scheme and the size right within Canva. 

I’ll walk you through my step-by-step method in a minute. If you’re in a hurry you can scroll to the bottom of the post to watch the short video and instructions.

Cricut Access vs Canva

It’s true that Cricut Access has lots of designs. But don’t stop there. Check out what other designs you can find in Canva. 

You can even use a Canva jpg file together with Cricut Access designs too. So, it doesn’t have to be just one or the other.

Supplies Needed to Make a JPG

I use a Canva Pro account to make this jpg file. Some of the designs in Canva are free and some of them are only available to Pro account users. The one I’m using is included in my Canva Teams subscription.

Canva Pro is worth it to me because I can make graphics, videos, and gifs with it. I pay for the yearly plan because it saves me money over the monthly subscription.

Step by Step Instructions to Use Canva to Make JPG Files

  1. Open a new template in Canva (try the T-shirt template)
  2. Click on Elements on the left side menu panel
  3. Search for an image and click on it. I used a “candy” design.
  4. Click on the Download arrow
  5. Select the file type as “JPG”
  6. Open Cricut Design Space
  7. Upload the saved jpg file into Design Space.

Pro Tip: Canva has lots of editing features. Try the duotone feature for a monochromatic look.

Make the Most of Canva

Not only can you use Canva to save graphics as jpg files, but you can also use the platform to add text to your designs and also save them as jpg files too.

Canva has lots of fonts that you can use to make your own text designs. Use it for birthday cards, and t-shirts.
