Can You Layer Glitter HTV?

Glitter Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV) is a gorgeous and versatile textile decoration that gives you a long-lasting, hard to remove finish. It can be used on almost any fabric, making it a favorite for many textile makers.

Considering making a sparkly project with your glitter vinyl but wondering if you can layer glitter HTV? Well, you can, although it may not be as neat and long-lasting as the non-layered one.

It’s not a very good idea to layer glitter HTV. It may work, but it will most likely not last.

You’ll also not know how it will turn out, and there are high chances that you will be disappointed. Layered glitter TV may also not last long after several washes

What kind of vinyl can you layer?

Some vinyl types are easier to layer than others. Knowing what to use and where to use it makes a huge difference in the ease and the outcomes of your project.

The easiest vinyl to work with is any permanent or temporary vinyl. They can also comfortably be used on any part of the project – be it top, middle or bottom.

Glitter vinyl has an uneven surface that isn’t good for layering, especially when it’s the middle or top layer.

Can You Layer Glitter HTV On Top of Regular HTV?

You really shouldn’t layer glitter HTV, but what about layering glitter heat transfer vinyl over regular HTV?

While it may also work, the outcome might not stay perfect for long. If you have to layer, then make sure that the glitter HTV is the topmost layer.

Can you layer iron-on glitter vinyl?

If you’re using iron-on products in your layering project, remember that glitter vinyl can only be used as a top layer.

Layered projects may end up giving you a more aesthetically appealing finish, but they also need extra care when layering.

Because of glitter vinyl’s rough texture, iron-on materials used on top of it will not stick well. They may end up peeling off soon after.

Can you layer HTV on top of each other?

Layering on different types of HTV’s is possible, and may even be quite fun and easy. If you’re planning to make a design that will need layering, take note of the types of HTV that cannot be used as bottom layers.  Glitter HTV, Sparkle, Foil, Flock, Shine and Shimmer can only be used as top layers.

For the bottom, use the vinyl with a smooth finish. The smooth finish HTV are versatile and are perfect whether they are used as a top or bottom layer.

Can you layer permanent glitter vinyl?

Glitter vinyl can be layered if you are working on a multi-colored glitter vinyl project, be careful not to layer more than three colors.

Too many colors and the layering may get too thick and too stiff. To achieve precision in layering, use transfer paper to layer the glitter vinyl.

Take Away

If you’re feeling a little sparkly and want to experiment with glitter vinyl, don’t shy away. Once you know the simple rules of working with HTV, whether glitter or not, you’ll enjoy the crafting.
