Let’s learn how to draw a bee. Bees are bright and busy hard workers. They make us think of Spring and all the beautiful flowers that we see at that time of the year. I’ll show you my method for how to draw a bee in just a few easy steps. 

I’ll show you how to draw this bee with a graphic tablet but you can also use these instructions if you want to draw it with a pencil and a sheet of paper.  

First, I’ll give you the instructions to draw the bee then we’ll color it. 

This is a good beginner drawing project because the steps are easy enough for anyone to follow. I’ve made it even easier by adding a printable instruction sheet below.

How to Draw an Easy Bee

Of course, you’ll need some art supplies to draw the bee. Below you’ll find a short list of supplies for two options, depending on whether you want to make a digital drawing or a paper drawing. 

You may already have some of these items. If not, you can easily order them online from Amazon or Etsy. I have included some links below to shops on both of these marketplaces.

My favorite graphic design software to use is Inkscape. It’s easy to download,  it’s free to use and there is even an online svg drawing app version of it that you can get for free.

I like to use the calligraphy and brush strokes tool when I’m drawing in Inkscape. The settings that I use are in the instruction sheet at the bottom of the post. 

If you’re making the digital version, open the calligraphy tool menu and change the settings to match mine before you start drawing. 

Draw a Bee Step by Step

Start by drawing a small circle for the head. Then draw a  “U” shape for the body. 

Don’t forget that you can print the instruction sheet below to help you draw the bee.

There is also an easy step by step video for you to watch later at the end of this post. The drawing tutorial takes less than 5 minutes.

Draw a Bee Stinger

The base of the bee is complete, let’s add the stinger.

Draw a V-shaped line at the bottom of the body.

It’s ok if the lines are not perfectly straight. So don’t worry too much about it.

Easy Way to Draw Bee Wings

So, now we have our base shape of the bee. 

The next step is to draw the wings.  I’ll draw two curved lines on the left side of the body and two curved lines on the right side of the body.

Draw a Bee Face

To draw the face, we’ll start with a curved line for the smile and then add two circles for the eyes. 

Your bee should now have a complete face.

Let’s draw the antennas. At the top of the bee’s head, we’ll make two vertical lines that each end in a curlicue.

The bee drawing outline is complete and you can move on to coloring the outline.

Coloring the Bee Drawing

You’re ready to color your drawing of the bee. If you prefer, you can leave him blank, and print your drawing as a coloring page.

Are you thinking about using this drawing to make a bee svg? If so, then, you will want to color him to get the best results.  

Otherwise, you will end up with a cut-out stencil outline instead of a filled-in bee.

To color the bee, use the fill bucket tool (fill bounded areas tool). 

Make sure that your areas are bounded (that means that they are closed with no gaps). 

If you have gaps, double click on the gap, zoom in, and pull the nodes to close the gap. Watch the video to see how I did this.

Click the fill bucket tool and then click on a color from the color menu bar at the bottom of the screen.  Next, click on a section of the bee to fill it with color. 

Repeat this process to color in every section of the bee.

Click on a section, and then click the fill bucket tool and then click on a color from the color menu bar at the bottom of the screen. 

Your easy bee drawing is done. All it took was just a few simple steps!

If you are making a digital drawing, make sure to close any gaps. This will make it easier to color the drawing using the fill bucket tool.

Put the outline in front of the color by using the Raise selection to top button.
